Meta Titles & Descriptions for Construction Companies

Meta Titles & Descriptions for Construction Companies

8 March 2024

Words like meta title and meta description sound like something straight out of Star Wars—or some digital lingo that doesn’t belong anywhere near the real-world, boots-on-the-ground trades.

But that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t know about them. In fact, learning what they are (and why they matter) could be one of the most important steps you take to get more clients, better leads, and a proper online presence.

As a business coach who works specifically with UK tradespeople, I know how much of this digital stuff feels totally out of reach. You’re not alone—and this post is here to explain it in plain English.

So What Exactly Are Meta Titles and Descriptions?

Let’s keep it simple.

When you search for something on Google—say plumber near me—you’ll see a list of websites pop up.

Each one has:

  • A title in blue that you can click on

  • A short description underneath that tells you what the page is about

👉 That blue text? That’s your meta title
👉 The paragraph underneath? That’s your meta description

And those two little pieces of text—they’re your shopfront online.

Why Tradespeople Should Care

Whether you’re a joiner, landscaper, plumber, sparkie, or builder, your potential customers are searching online first.

If your business appears on that list, the meta title and description are the only things standing between someone clicking on your site or scrolling past to your competitor.

If your title is vague or your description doesn’t speak to the problem they’re trying to solve… you’ll miss the click—and the job.

Examples You Can Learn From:

Meta Title:
Expert Joinery Services in Manchester | Tradecoach Joinery
Meta Description:
Transform your space with bespoke joinery solutions from Tradecoach Joinery. Discover expert craftsmanship and personalised service in Manchester.

Meta Title:
Professional Plumbing Solutions in London | Tradecoach Plumbing
Meta Description:
From leaky taps to full bathroom installs, trust Tradecoach & Sons Plumbing for reliable and efficient service across Greater London.

Meta Title:
Award-Winning Landscaping Services | Tradecoach Landscapes
Meta Description:
Elevate your outdoor space with stunning, professionally-designed gardens from Tradecoach Landscapes. Serving residential and commercial clients UK-wide.

Here’s What to Do

  1. Use plain language your customers understand

  2. Include your service and location (e.g., “Plumbing Services in Leeds”)

  3. Think like a customer – what would you click on if you were looking for your trade?

Try This Right Now:

  1. Go to Google

  2. Type in your trade and your location
(e.g., “Plumbing & Heating engineer in Leeds”)

  3. See what pops up

  • Do you show up?

  • If yes, does your title and description make someone want to click?

  • If not, does your competition look better than you online?

This is not fluff. Meta titles and descriptions are your first impression online—and in most cases, your only shot to win that click.

If you’re not showing up, or your listings don’t stand out, it’s costing you money.

Don’t ignore this. Either sort it yourself, ask your web developer to fix it, or get an SEO expert who knows what they’re doing.

And if you’re not sure where to start—send me a message. I’ll point you in the right direction.
