💥 The Truth About High Performance in Construction & Trades
We’re not built to be “high performing” every single day — no one is.
But that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t give ourselves the best possible shot at showing up sharp, focused, and effective during the week. And how do we balance Cigarettes & Alcohol alongside Business while maintaining productivity?
If you’re serious about growing your trade business, whether you’re a landscaper, builder, or electrician, it starts with consistency — not chaos and trust me when I say that there can’t be many men out there who love a beer as much as me!
Whether it be a few pints before the match or a few beer after a game of golf it matters not a jot to me, as long as my wife or my mates are nearby I’m having it – I really do love it but it can come at a cost – especially when growing a business that deals with balancing Cigarettes & Alcohol.
And as for that other sh*te (I’m sure you know what I mean), well that really is a mug’s game and a definite recipe for disaster from a business perspective.
If you are serious about doing this (creating freedom), we do need to buckle down (steady on I don’t mean completely!)
That means:
-
Limit alcohol to weekends (ideally Friday only).
-
Avoid anything that wrecks your energy or focus for days after.
-
Build habits that make you more productive, not more sluggish.
Because let’s be honest — drinking and drugs don’t mix with business growth.
If you’re on the tools or running a team, your energy sets the tone for everyone else, and this is crucial when considering the effects of Cigarettes & Alcohol on Business.
🚫 The Harsh Reality
Cocaine, for example, will destroy your discipline.
If your weekends revolve around that, expect your weekdays to fall apart.
Your body might still turn up to the job, but your brain won’t.
If you can stay clean for just 3–4 months — no booze sessions, no nonsense — you’ll be shocked how much more you achieve.
Your business, mindset, and finances will all improve because you’re not wasting half your week recovering from “just one night.”
⚙️ Why This Matters for Business Owners
Alcohol isn’t the root problem — our lack of control is.
A few drinks aren’t going to sink your business, but regular overindulgence will cost you clarity, time, and profit and if you are anything like me the tiredness and unwillingness to talk to other humans just becomes too much when you add Cigarettes & Alcohol to the mix.
I say this as someone who’s been there.
I had a serious drinking problem until I realised that abundance, success, freedom, travel, health, and peace of mind mattered far more to me than another 4am session (was closer to 6 but don’t tell Claire)
Now? I choose balance.
I enjoy a beer — but not at the expense of my focus, family, or future.
🧠 Featured in Forbes: “High Performance – Don’t Believe the Hype”
I actually wrote about this in Forbes, where I broke down what true high performance really means.
It’s not about burning out, hustling harder, or pretending you’re invincible — it’s about sustainable performance, clarity, and self-awareness.

High Performance – Don’t Believe the Hype
If you want to perform better in business (and life), start by getting honest about the habits that hold you back — and replacing them with ones that move you forward.
🚀 Final Thought
Beer and business can mix — but only when you’re in control.
You can’t build an empire while your body’s still recovering from last night spent with Cigarettes & Alcohol.
Stay sharp. Stay consistent. Stay focused.
Because the version of you that’s clear-headed, rested, and disciplined?
That’s the one that builds real success.
Trust me I know ;(
