In today’s world, many of us are constantly striving for high performance every day. This shows up in every aspect of our lives, especially in business. There’s a common belief that success is only attainable by those who are high-performing every day. But that’s not always the case. In fact, it’s perfectly okay to take breaks and not be at your best every single day. As business owners, we often beat ourselves up on the low-productive days. But as the title suggests, we are not designed to be highly productive every day.
Why high performance every day isn’t the goal
As a business coach, I often see clients who are burnt out from pushing themselves too hard. They feel like they have to be high-performing every day. As a result, they often neglect their own health and well-being. This is not sustainable. It can hurt your business in the long run — not to mention your health, your relationships and your family ties. Let’s be honest here family is more important than all of this.
How to protect high performance every day without burning out
Taking breaks and allowing yourself to rest is crucial for maintaining high performance over time. In fact, studies have shown that taking regular breaks can actually increase productivity and creativity. This is because our brains need time to recharge in order to come up with fresh ideas and insights. So, if you’re feeling burnt out and like you can’t keep up with your own expectations, it’s okay to step back and take a break. This can mean taking a day off, going on a holiday, or simply taking a few hours to relax and do something that you enjoy. By doing this, you’re actually setting yourself up for greater success in the long run.
As a business coach, I often work with clients to help them find the right work/life balance between work and rest. I encourage my clients to prioritise self-care and to be kind to themselves when they’re not at their best. By doing this, they’re able to maintain their motivation and energy for the long haul.
Sustainable high performance every day starts with rest
In conclusion, being high-performing every day is not necessary for success in business. Taking breaks and allowing yourself to rest is crucial for maintaining productivity and creativity over time. So, if you’re feeling burnt out or like you can’t keep up with your own expectations, know that it’s okay to take a break and prioritize self-care. As a business coach, I’m here to support you on this journey and help you find the right balance for your unique needs.
