I Don’t Want to Die for My Kids — I Want to Live for Them
It hit me one night. I was sitting at the dinner table, physically there but mentally miles away thinking about invoices, off-hiring skips, chasing payments, staff issues. My daughter was talking to me, and I nodded and responded ‘aye’ like I was listening. But I wasn’t, I was miles and miles away (how sad)
That’s when I realised:
Even if I was making £100,000 a month it wouldn’t make any difference, I still would be missing out on what’s important.
I don’t wanna be that Dad known for being a hard grafter,
Nor just work myself into an early grave so they can say, “Dad worked hard.”
I want them to say, “My Dad f**ing lived.”*
I want them to see me on social media jumping out of planes, swimming with dolphins, feeding wild elephants in the jungle, eating scorpions in Chinatown, walking down Las Vegas strip or strolling barefoot along a Bahamas beach with a mojito. I want them to see me on beaches with my wife, having romantic getaways, partying with my pals, meditating next to a Buddha statue in silence or even making a fool of myself on my footballing adventures with my mates..
I want to be an example. A blueprint. A reason they believe life can be full of magic.
Would I jump in-front of a bus and die if it meant my child living – yes of course but I ain’t gonna ‘choose that’ clearly, I CAN (and did) choose to create a life I am so fucking proud of and one where they can look at it (when they ain’t by my side) and say ‘if my dad can do that, then so can I)
And yeah if I’m being honest—I want to inspire you too.
