The Client Is NOT Always Right.
Why It’s Time Tradesmen Fought Back
Let me say it loud and clear: the client is NOT always right.
If you’re a tradesman, you already know exactly the type I’m talking about…
That one client.
The one who haggled your price from the very first message.
The one who smiled and said, “You’re here anyway, can you just do that…”
The one who fired off texts at 7PM demanding updates.
The one who called on a Sunday like your life isn’t yours.
And after all of that, when the job’s done and you’ve bent over backwards —
they pull the classic: “Not really happy, so we’re not paying the full balance or fix this and that and I’ll pay despite it clearly not being discussed previously.”
You’ve been there. And if you haven’t yet — it’s coming.
Because this dragon shows up in every trade at some point.
Here’s the truth:
You’re not just a tradesman.
You’re not a servant.
You’re not a 24/7 call centre.
And you’re definitely not a charity.
You are a business owner. A professional.
You provide a valuable service, with your time, skill, and reputation on the line.
And you have every right to set boundaries, charge what you’re worth, and expect respect.
You get what you tolerate.
If you let that dragon push you once, it’ll return again and again – bigger, bolder, and hungrier.
That’s why I teach tradesmen how to run a business on their terms.
With clear contracts. Payment schedules. Boundaries.
And the confidence to say, “No mate, that’s not included — here’s the extra cost.”
I’m not in the corner of the client, in actual fact in my own business my office staff would INTERVIEW the client prior to sending out our surveyor. There was absolutely no way I would send a surveyor on £15-20 per hour 30-40 minutes across the city to price a job where the client hasn’t qualified on MY terms…
My Tradecoach clients now understand this which is why their conversion rate from enquiry to sale sits between 40-80% at prices most trade businesses could only dream of….
I have landscapers charging £450+vat for porcelain and plasterers charging £1500 per day labour rate…
I’m in the corner of the tradesman.
You’re not alone in this fight.
At TradeCoach, we’re building a movement.
For the guys (and girls) who’ve had enough of being pushed around.
For the grafters who want to build something real — and not get robbed at the finish line.
So if this hit home?
Share it.
Tag a mate.
And remember:
The client is not always right.
You should always be respected.
